Know Your Mom Value

What does this look REALLY look like?

In the constant history of our world, we humans have always sought out the value of all the things not to mention our own personal value judged by others AND judged by ourselves. A quick history lesson and you get my point:

Cooperation & Survival Instincts → Fairness & Mutual Respect

Hunter & Gatherer → Agriculture

Industrialization → Hierarchy, Individual Achievement, Equality (*all dependent on prevailing energy sources & social structures)

Throw into the mix of our growth and evolution a few sound philosophers and religious leaders also debating human dignity vs. how we access energy in our world and we have quite a recipe for a stew handed down from generation to generation!

Where do moms fit in to this picture? That too has always been largely debated BUT what can not be argued against is the fact that WE HAVE VALUE! And we have added value to our world and loved ones!

Showing Up As Your Best Self

Love has many faces but the best and most pure I’ve seen are the faces of moms and children. Even when a mom is parenting out of fear, love can still be seen there. This is the biggest misconception in our world of checks and balances, To Do list’s to get into heaven, and right down to parenting styles.

We moms are working so hard to just show up as our best selves with what we have! Sometimes that even means giving our babies up for adoption or working two jobs that takes us away from the home we long to be nurturing first, rather than a dead end short order cooking career. Why not take a minute and remind your 21st century brain that you are indeed showing up as your best self and pivoting all the time when new information comes in about your kids? You deserve that reminder at the least!

Legacy & Dreams

Two things that drive me forward when I am having all the feelings of failing backward: Legacy & Dreams.

In our society of instant gratification we often forget that the word legacy means, “The long-lasting impact of particular events, actions, etc. that took place in the past, or of a person’s life.” And for us moms this means all those little acts of love will translate into the days of our future self.

It’s easy for our mom brain to seclude this definition to just the legacy we leave with our children. We often don’t realize that our face of love has touched so many around us because we’re just so used to being nurturer’s 24/7. A skill set we take for granted at times because we don’t understand until much later that our reach in the singular moment goes way beyond our fingertips. You, my dear mom have left a legacy of your love wherever you have walked and talked, and THAT holds so much unspoken value.

Your mom dreams are just as valuable! Some start as dreams to help move our children forward, some are dreams we stumble upon to make our own lives easier… but neither can be arguably more important. Take a look at this short list of famous people who credit their moms for their own success, some of which were moms themselves. Keep dreaming my sweet mom friend!

Seeking The Sacred

In her book Seeking The Sacred, Stephanie Dowrick offers up love as the best medicine when we face our biggest critic, Self that debates our value: “Invigorated by love we can face our inner constrictions and defenses bravely.” Ironically, Stephanie writes this in her section titled Reverence.

It always strikes me that we are just not capable to have reverence for our God or higher power if we can not hold reverence and love for our SELF FIRST. We often justify this as a selfish act. But when is comes to the power of true love, is it really? If so, then why don’t we deserve true love OF OURSELVES?

A Backward Thought

If you were to stop your busy mom life for just two minutes and contemplate, “When was the last time I looked inward at the sacredness of myself and all that is within me?”, what would your reply be? What would be the answer to your personal value question?

You ARE sacred dear momma. You are “invigorated by love” and your value is within just waiting to burst out!
